Hope Roaten, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Mid Central Pennsylvania Chapter, made the presentation at the courthouse during a special ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.

Certificates were presented to President Judge John Foradora, Levi Campbell, Jenn Shaffer, Dean Smith, Sharon Griffin, and Peggy Smith.

The certificates marked the response to the actions taken following an accident that occurred at the courthouse on May 25, when First Deputy Jennifer Shaffer sustained a life-threatening injury at the courthouse.

According to information released by District Court Administrator Chad Weaver, Shaffer was injured in a fall, which resulted in a cut to an artery on her arm, caused by a dish that she was carrying when she fell.

Weaver noted that without the quick action of Judge Foradora and the other employees, who used a homemade tourniquet to slow the bleeding from the cut, the outcome of the accident could have been dire.
