Redbank Valley High School Hosts Ed Camp

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) – The Redbank Valley School District held its first Student EdCamp on Friday, December 22.

According to social studies teacher Joe Harmon, students experienced everything from Mystery Skyping, a class in France, STEM challenge, Clarion MMA self-defense, robotics, auto care 101, sewing, cupcake decorating, drone piloting by TechReady Professionals, EMS by Clarion Hospital EMS, and strength and conditioning by Dr. Sally Sherman.

According to Harmon, he and a group of teachers created a day of learning based on students’ interests. The learning session was led by teachers, community members, and students themselves.

The team of teachers responsible for organizing this day included Mrs. Kelly Campbell Ripple, Mrs. Dianna Bain, Mrs. Brittany Weaver, Mr. Billy Weaver, and Mr. Laird.

Mr. Mike Fricko helped share the vision for this event.

The day also featured former WWE wrestler and inspirational speaker Marc Merro, pictured above with Harmon.

“There was barely a dry eye in our auditorium full of students, fifth to 12th grade, as former WWE Champion Marc Mero shared his story and challenged our kids to be kind to each other, to not take their friends and family for granted, and to dream big!” Harmon said.

Harmon said a highlight for him at EdCamp was the rousing version of the French national anthem by these elementary students, our new friends in France, after the Mystery Skype session.

Subway of New Bethlehem provided lunch for the community members who presented at the Edcamp.
