Reyes Helps Curve to Win at Portland


PORTLAND, Maine – Pablo Reyes clubbed a two-run homer in the first inning and the Altoona Curve rolled to a 5-3 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in the road trip opener on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.

The Curve (63-57) stranded 11 Sea Dogs (57-61) baserunners in the game, including 10 over the first five innings.

Altoona struck first in the top of the first inning. Cole Tucker led off the game with a triple, and Reyes followed with a two-run homer off of Portland starter Teddy Stankiewicz (Loss, 4-5).

Portland cut the lead in half with an RBI infield single by Danny Mars.

Leading 2-1 in the seventh, Anderson Feliz brought in a run with a groundout, and Jordan George followed with a two-out, two-run single against former Curve reliever Josh Smith, extending the lead to 5-1.

Portland chipped away in the eighth. Jordan Procyshen hit an RBI double and Mars followed with a run-scoring groundout to pull the Sea Dogs within two runs.

Tate Scioneaux (Save, 12) worked a 1-2-3 ninth with a strikeout to close out the game.

Curve starter J.T. Brubaker (DEC) pitched five innings and allowed one, despite allowing 12 baserunners with eight hits, three walks and a hit batter. He finished the game with four strikeouts. He left 10 runners on base over his five innings, including stranding the bases loaded in the first and third innings.

Sean Keselica did not allow a hit over his two innings, surrendering one run with one walk and two strikeouts. Luis Heredia worked through the eighth and allowed one earned run on two hits, his first earned run allowed since July 20 after seven straight scoreless outings.

The Curve and Sea Dogs continue the series on Wednesday night. Left-hander Brandon Waddell (2-2, 3.63) will be on the mound for Altoona, opposed by Portland lefty Dedgar Jimenez (3-0, 3.47). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Hadlock Field.
