Reynoldsville Man Arrested for Assaulting, Threatening to Kill Woman

MCCALMONT TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Reynoldsville man is behind bars following an incident where he allegedly assaulted a woman and threatened to kill her.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 58-year-old James Christopher Helman, of Reynoldsville.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:43 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, a known woman appeared at the Punxsutawney-based State Police barracks and provided a written statement indicating that around 5:30 p.m. that day (July 14), James Christopher Helman pushed/shoved her onto a couch after she refused to take him to a local club for alcohol. The woman then attempted to call 9-1-1, but Hellman ripped the phone out of her hand and a verbal argument ensued.

The complaint states that Helman then threatened to disable the woman’s vehicle. As Helman was walking out of the door, the woman stepped in front of him to prevent him from tampering with her vehicle, and Helman then allegedly pulled his fist back multiple times, as if he was going to punch her.

The complaint notes the Helman is a trained boxer.

According to the complaint, the woman told Helman “nN, you aren’t going to hit me this time,” and Helman replied “No, I’m not going to hit you, I’m going to kill you,” and grabbed the woman by her windpipe, causing her fear of imminent serious bodily harm.

The woman then attempted to get away from Helman’s grip, but he continued pulling her back toward him by her shirt, which eventually caused her to fall to the ground where she scraped the back of her arm, the complaint states.

The following charges were filed against Helman through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on Monday, July 15:

– Terroristic Threats With Intent to Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post $75,000.00 monetary bail (10%), he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on Monday, July 22, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
