Richard Eugene “Gene” Miller, 88, Indiana, died Friday, January 2, 2014, at St. Andrews Village, Indiana.
He was born January 4, 1926, in Rochester Mills, a son of the late James P. and Floy (Weaver) Miller.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Rochester Mills and enjoyed being a youth fellowship advisor.
Gene was a 1948 graduate of the Indiana State Teachers College (IUP) where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree. He earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Rochester. He was a teacher at Marion Center Area Schools for thirty one and a half years and retired in 1982. While teaching, he was the school newspaper advisor for over thirty years.
He enjoyed being involved with the historical societies in our area.
Surviving relatives include a niece Barbara Ann Henry of Clearwater, FL; and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marilyn Miller, Susan Miller, and Imogene Henry.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at the funeral home with Janet Chiplis officiating.
Private interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Rochester Mills.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Miller, may be made to an area Historical Society.
