Richard James Covatch

Richard James Covatch, 80, of Punxsutawney, PA died on Friday, October 10, 2014 at UPMC-Montefiore Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

He was born April 21, 1934 in Rossiter, PA, the son of the late Charles and Mary Jane (Barnett) Covatch.

He was married for 50 years to Mary Louise (Maddox) Covatch who preceded him in death on July 27, 2008.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Air Force.

He was a member of the American Legion.

He was a laborer in the construction industry for many years.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing and was often the chief cook and bottle-washer at many gatherings.

He is survived by one son, Timothy J. Covatch of Punxsutawney, PA; two daughters, Marie Burkett and her husband, Jerry of Coolspring, PA and Chrisanne Ishino and husband, Joseph of Enola, PA; one brother, Harold Covatch and his wife, Gyneth of Punxsutawney, PA; and one sister-in-law, Kay Covatch of Punxsutawney, PA.

He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Jera-Marie Burkett Bupp, Jole-Lanee Burkett, Nathan Cook, Jordan Cook, Stephen Cook, Ashley Kostok, Randi Jo Covatch and Joshua Covatch.

Also 10 great-grandchildren, Tate, Taylor, Emmarie, Ellis, Teiler, Elianna, Brady, Jackson, Jordynn and Jaelynn.

He was preceded in death by one son, Richard M. Covatch; four brothers, William, Lloyd, Charles and Albert Covatch; and by one sister, Elizabeth Pezzuti.

Friends will be received at the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, PA on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Joseph Buterbaugh officiating.
