Richard Mervin Shaffer, 58, of Rossiter, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
He was born January 24, 1957, in New Bethlehem, the son of the late Billy Shaffer and Ethel (Goodheart) Shaffer.
In 1977, he married Virginia (Bair) Shaffer, who survives.
Richard was self-employed; however, during his lifetime, he worked at Hanley Brick Company in Summerville, was a driller for Fairman’s and was also a contractor and a landlord.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is survived by three children including two sons, Richard Shaffer, Jr. and wife Jody (Lingenfelter) and Ryan Shaffer; and one daughter, Susan Shaffer; two grandchildren, Bailey and Riley; one sister, Patty Schrengost and husband Lynn; three brothers, Robert Shaffer and wife Diane, Kenneth Shaffer and wife Stella and Raymond Shaffer and wife Melinda.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. David Stonebraker.
Interment will be at Worthville Cemetery.
