Richard O. “Greenie” Greenwood, Jr.

Richard O. “Greenie” Greenwood, Jr., 68, of N. Center St., Corry, Pa., died on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at his home.

He was born on July 15, 1947, in Warren, Pa., a son of Gladys Bowersox Greenwood of Brookville, Pa., and the late Richard O. Greenwood, Sr. Greenie was raised in Corsica, Pa., and was a 1965 graduate of Clarion-Limestone High School.

He then served with the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1969.

He returned to Brookville, Pa., and worked as a heavy equipment driver for Utility Construction in Linesville, Pa. Greenie then became a member of the Pennsylvania State Police for 10 years, during that time, he was stationed in Franklin, Lawrence Park, New Castle and Corry. For a few years, he worked as a car salesman in Warren, then for Rice-Upperman dealership in Corry. Starting in the mid 1990’s, Greenie was self-employed as a long haul truck driver until his retirement in 2012. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #264, BPOE Elks Lodge #769, Corry, and the AM-VETS Club in Sugar Grove. He also belonged to the American Legion Post #237, the Masonic Lodge #365, the Corry Moose Club and Street Machines Unlimited. Greenie enjoyed playing pool and golfing.

In addition to his mother, Greenie is survived by his wife, Sherry M. Upperman Greenwood,; two sisters, Nancy McLaughlin of Brookville, Pa., and Janet Craton of Warner Robins, Ga.; and two close friends, Devin Greene of Erie, Pa., and Todd Peterson of Corry, Pa.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa.,on Tuesday from 2 pm until the time of the memorial service there at 4 pm.

Pastor Les Utegg will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA. 16505 or The Regional Cancer Center, 2500 W. 12th St., Erie, PA. 16505.
