Rick’s Racing Roundup: Sprint Car Special to Be Held on Friday at Thunder Mountain Speedway

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. – While the rain stayed north of Lernerville, Thunder Mountain Speedway was not as lucky where storms washed out their Friday program. This Friday will be one of the most anticipated shows of the season at Thunder Mountain as the 410 sprint cars invade for their only visit of 2019.

Three thousand dollars will await the winner of this year’s sprint car special. Last year Jack Sodeman Jr of Ohio took the honors.

Look for most of the area’s top sprint cars to be on hand along with a few invaders, and like last year there will also be a fifteen lap non-qualifiers race. The super late models will also be on the card Friday along with four-cylinder stock cars. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 pm. You won’t want to miss the exciting sprint cars in their only appearance of the season at the Brookville oval.

The weather was hot this past weekend and so was big block modified racer Jeremiah Shingledecker of Polk.

The modified veteran won his second straight feature at Lernerville Speedway and did it in exciting fashion as he raced from the tail of the field to the lead in the final laps. Defending track champ AJ Flick shook his recent bad luck and returned to victory lane in the sprint car feature while Colton Flinner scored his first late model win of the season.

Tyler Dietz scored another win in the stock car night cap. The modifieds will headline the card this Friday at Lernerville Speedway for Modified Mania. The all modified card will feature the BRP Modified Tour. They will be joined by the Elite Modified Series, UMP E-mods, RUSH modifieds, and the western Pa vintage modified series.

Hummingbird Speedway was able to complete two of five features before rains invaded the track washing out the remainder of the program. Mike Wonderling of New York was the winner of the late model feature while Jon Lee of Mahaffey won the semi late special. The 2,000 dollar to win Gateway Special for the street stocks will be completed this Saturday. The pure stock and 4 cylinder features will be made up on August 3rd. This Saturday will also be Pittsburgh Circle Track Club Night along with fan appreciation night.

Sharon Speedway also fell victim to rain this past Saturday as they were completing heat race competition. For Sharon it was their sixth rain out of the 2019 season. This Saturday the 410 sprint cars will return to action for another Menards Super Series show paying three thousand dollars to the winner.

With rain in the area and temperatures in the nineties Michaels Mercer Raceway opted to postpone their Saturday racing program. The race featuring the BRP Mod Tour will take place this Saturday instead with the big block modifieds battling for a three thousand dollar top prize.

World of Outlaws point leader Brad Sweet won the highest paying race of the season Saturday at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway by winning the 36th annual Kings Royal over the weekend. Sweet took home a whopping 175,000 dollars for himself and his car owner former NASCAR star Kasey Kahne. A pair of Pennsylvania natives rounded out the podium as early leader Logan Schuchart and hard charger Brent Marks finished behind Sweet.
