Unlike most Fridays this summer, sunny skies greeted fans Friday at Thunder Mountain Speedway where the ULMS Late Model Series invaded for their second time in 2018.

This past Friday saw a first-time winner as Doug Drown made a surprise visit to the Brookville oval and scored his first career ULMS win. The win was worth a cool $3,000 for the Ohio invader. This Friday at Thunder Mountain will feature a regular show highlighted by the late models. It will also be a Father’s Day special with all dads receiving $2 off their general admission.
At Lernerville Speedway a big crowd turned out Friday for Fab 4 racing and fireworks.
The night got underway with Michael Norris winning an unprecedented fourth late model feature in five starts. The big block modified feature was a thriller that saw Rex King Jr. record his second win of the season after dueling with Jim Weller. Central Pennsylvania invader Logan Wagner made his first visit to Lernerville this season a profitable one by winning the sprint car feature. Noah Brunell scored his first win in the stock car feature to close out the evening.
The ULMS Late Model Series was scheduled to invade Sharon Speedway on Saturday but once again Mother Nature had other ideas. Sharon was forced to cancel the event due to early morning rain. It was the fourth cancellation in the last five weeks as rain continues to plague the Hartford oval. All eyes will now turn to the biggest stock car race of the year in the area. The Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals featuring the Penn-Ohio Stock Car Series will get underway this Friday with practice for the nearly eighty stock cars that are pre-entered.
After practice on Friday there will be a bonfire behind the grandstands and the classic rock band “The Binge” will perform from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. Camping is free at the Speedway and area lodging is available at Best Western Inn & Suites in Hubbard, Ohio, with a discounted rate if you mention Sharon Speedway. The racing gets underway on Saturday evening when the stock cars will battle it out for the $10,000 top prize presented by Blue Ox Timber. This should be a wild one and a race no stock car fan will want to miss!
It will be a busy week at Sharon Speedway as Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions return to Sharon Tuesday, June 19 for night five of the 36th annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek. Rich in tradition, the All-Stars will race nine consecutive nights at eight different tracks across Ohio with a Speedweek champion being crowned on the final night at Atomic Speedway.
Hummingbird Speedway was able to dodge the raindrops this past Saturday and complete their fourth racing program of 2018.
Chris Farrell continued his winning ways by scoring his third late model win in four weeks. Other winners on the night included Rich Howell in the street stock, Mike Anderson in the pure stock, Denny Fenton in the semi-late, and Eric Luzier in the 4-cylinder feature. Racing resumes this Saturday at The Bird with another five division show getting underway at 7 p.m.
After sitting idle for a couple of weeks Tri-City Raceway will swing back to action this Sunday with the “Father’s Day Shootout.” Tri-City announced this past week that they have added new clay to the track and it’s just in time for the return of the 410 sprint cars. The winged sprint cars will make their first of three appearances this Sunday at the Venango County oval.

Joining the sprint cars will be the RUSH wingless sprint cars in their first of two visits to Tri-City. Rounding out the card will be the RUSH late models for the annual Bill Emig Memorial. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m. and the race does carry a June 24 rain date if needed.
