Robert “Bob” Edward Weaver

Robert “Bob” Edward Weaver, 76, of Stump Creek, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 19, 2021, at his daughter’s home.

He was born in Punxsutawney on June 10, 1944, the son of Norman Paul Weaver and Catherine (Whitfield) Weaver.

Bob was a United States Navy Veteran that served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a deeply patriotic man and was very proud of his contribution to the freedom we enjoy to this day.

On April 11, 1988, he married his best friend, Nancy Joanna Smith. They have enjoyed thirty-three years together and have made many wonderful memories that will always be cherished.

Bob worked as a welder for George I. Reitz & Sons Inc. in Brookville and at Walmart in his later years, where he was known as “Bob the Builder” for assembling bikes and any of the little handyman jobs that needed done.

Bob was a very social man, he always had a smile on his face and was happy to be around others. He was very community minded and loved to help a neighbor out by plowing, cutting grass or lending a helping hand. He loved to be outdoors, tinkering around, going hunting or fishing or just mowing grass.

He was a lifetime member of the Big Run Volunteer Fire Company, Lifetime member of Big Run VFW post 9044, which merged with VFW post 2076, the American Legion post #0062 for thirty years, the Eagles in Punxsutawney and Sykesville, and a faithful member of the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard for eleven years. He volunteered many hours and days to provide Military Honors for his fallen comrades over the years.

In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by three children, William Todd Rash of Stump Creek, Robert E. Weaver, Jr and wife Cindy of Big Run and Melissa Smith and husband Rick of Big Run; five grandchildren, Matthew Paul Weaver and wife Alexa of Asbury Park, New Jersey, Katie Ann Weaver, Kyle William Taylor, Owen Smith and Zoie Smith, all of Big Run.

In accordance to Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

A graveside celebration of Bob’s life will be held in the spring at McClure Cemetery, Big Run, where military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.
