Robert Douglas Matthews

Robert Douglas Matthews, 74, Hudson, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born September 16, 1941, in Independence, West Virginia, a son of the late Mildred G. (Holmes) and William Matthew.

On December 12, 1981, he married Patricia M. (Lambert) Matthews, who survives.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Throughout his working life he owned a service station, worked for Smith Tool International as a drill bit/chemical salesman in the drilling industry, and then retired from Gasbarre Products in DuBois, PA.

He was a graduate of Grafton High School. He enjoyed cars and working on cars, watching car racing, bowling, and loved his grandchildren. He was a member of the Elks.

He attended Soldier Community Church.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a stepson Daniel Shugarts and wife Michelle of Punxsutawney; a daughter Jennie L. Pearce and husband Jeffery of Big Run; four grandchildren, MacKenzie “Tootsie” Matthews, Mia Lorraine Pearce, Logan Richard Pearce, and Jaycie Wineberg Pearce; a sister Rosemary Harlene (Matthews) Satterfield of Grafton, WV; a sister-in-law Barbara Matthews of Grafton, WV; a daughter-in-law Melissa S. Mattis of Punxsutawney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son David Robert Matthews, a brother William Matthews, and a brother-in-law Lawrence Satterfield.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2016, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
