Robert E. George

robert-e-georgeRobert E. George, 65, of Gilpin Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at home.

Born March 5, 1951 in Brookville, PA, he was a son of the late Byron George & Doris (Cook) Schimp.

Robert lived in Gilpin Township for the last 3 years after moving back to the area from Tallahassee & Jacksonville, FL. He was a 1969 graduate of Clarion-Limestone High School. Robert proudly served our country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a truck driver for various companies, including Ronald Gross, Inc. in Cabot, retiring in 2014. Robert was a member of the American Legion in Schenley, PA, and the Leechburg Moose.

He enjoyed hunting & playing hunting games on the WII, and liked shooting pool, watching Westerns, and working on his Fords.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his step-father, Edward Schimp; and a brother, Byron “Butchie” George.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Mary M. (McKinley) George; daughters, Kathy L. Colwell of Girty, Jennifer A. (Richard) Romano of West Leechburg, Bobbie M. (Ben) Wilson of Grove City, Cynthia F. (Matthew) Lockhart of Gilpin Township, Margaret M. “Maggie” (Charles) Polonsky of Oil City; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many siblings, including brothers David (Stefanie) Schimp and James (Barbara) George, all of Strattanville, PA; many nieces and nephews; and last but certainly not least, his beloved dogs Scooby Doo, Tinkerbell, Lexie & his beloved cats, Butterfly & Sassy Pants.

Friends will be received in the Curran Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 300 Market St., Leechburg, on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Jerrad R. Peterman officiating.
