Robert Lee “Bob” Vandervort

Robert Lee “Bob” Vandervort, 85, of Brookville, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018, as a resident of the Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA.

Bob was born on April 15, 1932, to the late Clarence E. and Hazel M. (Gardlock) Vandervort, in Brookville, PA.

He served his country honorably in the United States Army, during the Korean War; he was a driver of tanks while serving. He attended the Brookville School District with the class of 1951. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, #983 in Brookville, PA, and a member of the American Legion.

Bob worked in many different jobs throughout his life which included the parts divisions of Brookville Equipment, garbage removal with Hetricks, and for many years he sold Aflac insurance covering a very large area in and around Brookville. Bob was very successful with Aflac, winning many company awards and retiring at the age of 65.

He was very well liked among his friends and colleagues with a large group of friends that he enjoyed being with as much as he could. He loved going to his camp in Sigel and feeding the many animals that would come around. Eventually he moved into his camp and he stayed there until he was unable to live alone anymore. When the Veterans would make and sell Poppy’s, Bob was known for selling the most of them. When he was able he enjoyed hunting, helping people get to and from appointments, and he loved taking trips into Pittsburgh. He collected model cars, watching old westerns staring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, and he was also a fan of Patrick Swayze.

Bob is survived by four daughters; Donna Hunsburger, Molly Ross, Pat (Bob) Long, Jean Cahill; three sisters; Betty Mauk, Virginia (Eddie) Smith, Joyce Murphy; five grandsons; Jamie Altemus, Elijah Ross McCreight, Joshua Ross, Justin Smith, Austin Smith; and one granddaughter; Lisa Crispin.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by one son; Mark Vandervort; two sisters, Mary Lou McKinney, Juanita Egan; and one grandson; Jeremiah Ross.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, April 5, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA. A second opportunity of viewing will take place on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., also at the Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow the second viewing, beginning at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor Chuck Jack. Interment will take place at the Brookville Cemetery, Brookville, PA.
