CLOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 12:48 a.m. on May 26, a one-car accident occurred on Summerville-Corsica Road (State Route 949), north of Bowley Road, in Clover Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 28-year-old Hope M. Gumpher, of Summerville, was traveling south on SR 949, and her 2005 Chevrolet Impala went off the right side of the roadway, continuing south on SR 949.

Her car went into a ditch and struck an embankment with the passenger’s side front of the vehicle. After impact, the car continued southbound off the roadway and struck another embankment, sending the vehicle airborne, police say.

The car continued approximately 34′ in the air and landed uneven on the driver’s side front wheel. The vehicle rolled, landing on its roof and continued approximately 42′ on its roof before coming to rest in the southbound lane on its roof facing west, according to police.

Prior to Pennsylvania State Police arrival, Gumpher departed the scene on foot and walked to the nearest residence to summon EMS.

She was flown to UPMC Presbyterian with unknown injuries.

Jefferson County EMS; Summerville Volunteer Fire Department; Leadbetter Towing; and Stat Medivac assisted at the scene.
