Rose Mary Meals McGinnis

Member_127155Rose Mary Meals McGinnis,71, of St. Petersburg, formerly of Foxburg, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 2, 2013 following a long battle with cancer. Her family and friends were by her side when she drifted off to be with the Lord.

Rose was born in Eau Claire on July 29, 1942, the daughter of Clifford Maxwell and Mary Jane Meals.

Rose was married to David Wayne McGinnis on July 31, 1965 in Clintonville. Rose and Dave just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Rose had been employed by Holiday Inn, Frontier, U.C.I.P, and Emlenton Truck Plaza for many years, retiring in 2004. Rose enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandchildren, friends, and her dog Saddie. She enjoyed playing bingo and loved flowers and plants. She will be most remembered by her gift of gabbing. Rose was Methodist of faith.

Rose is survived by her husband, David Wayne McGinnis of St. Petersburg; three daughters, Mary Jane Detar of Pittsburgh, Tarena Lehnortt and her companion, Jason Rottman of Knox, Pamela Shay and her husband, William of St. Petersburg; two sons, David Alan Meals of St. Petersburg and Gary McGinnis and his companion, Jennifer Hartzell of St. Petersburg; a son-in-law, Everett Lehnortt of Foxburg; eight grandchildren, Christopher Meals of Jefferson, Florida, Mary and Jeff Detar of Pittsburgh, Tiffiny Shirey and her husband, Josh of Emlenton, Tina Lehnortt and her companion, Kolt Painter of Sligo, Dylan Meals of Florida, and Peyton and Kyndel Shay of St. Petersburg; six great grandchildren, Zay, Damarae, Ethan, Josh, Tyler, Halee; a brother, David Meals and his wife, Carol of Foxburg, and a sister, Nancy Ganoe of Clarion, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Maxwell Meals.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove Street, St. Petersburg, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Evans and the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, co-officiating. Interment will follow at Foxburg Cemetery.
