Rossiter Man Hospitalized After Vehicle Travels Down Embankment, Slams Into Tree

A moving ambulance on it''s way to a crash site.CANOE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, a one-vehicle crash involving a 22-year-old Rossiter man occurred on September 28 around 3:15 a.m. in Canoe Township, Indiana County.

Police say the crash occurred as Nicholas P. Wehrle was traveling east on Buffalo Lodge Road, 1378 feet west of Steffy Church Road, in a 2011 BMW 3351.

Wehrle allegedly failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the roadway and lost control of his vehicle, say police.

The BMW allegedly traveled off of the south edge of the roadway, down over an embankment, and collided head-on with a tree.

According to police, Wehrle’s vehicle came to a final rest facing east down over the embankment, approximately seven feet off of the roadway.

Wehrle was wearing a seatbelt and sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash. Police say he was transported by Jefferson County EMS to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital to be treated.

He was charged with a traffic violation.

Police say alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The BMW was towed from the scene by Walker’s Towing.
