Ruby Slay

Ruby Slay, age 88, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021, while a resident of Laurelbrooke Landing, in Brookville, PA.

Ruby was born on July 20, 1933, to the late Orville and Edith (Brownfield) Slay, in Hopwood, PA.

Ruby worked as an elementary school teacher for thirty-three years in the Brookville School District, one year in Oil City School District, and two years in Corsica School District.

She attended the Brookville First Baptist Church where she would teach the ladies class and played the organ for many years.

Periodically, she would play duets with her sister Connie on the piano.

She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and enjoyed volunteering at Laurelbrooke Landing.

Ruby enjoyed being outdoors doing many things including walking, cross country skiing, bird watching, and gardening.

She was talented with music, enjoying the opportunities she had to play the organ.

She also enjoyed being with friends, animals, and studying her Bible.

Ruby is survived by four first cousins; Dale Rogers of Cambridge, OH, Karen Quelette of Hilliard, OH, Robin Slay of Albuquerque, NM, and Larry Slay of Dallas, TX.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 10 – 11am, at the Brookville First Baptist Church, 101 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the viewing, also at the Brookville First Baptist Church, beginning at 11:00am, and officiated by Pastor David Blair.

Interment will take place at Butler Cemetery, Pine Creek Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Brookville First Baptist Church, or to Back to the Bible, P.O. Box 82808 Lincoln, NE 68501.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the Mckinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825.
