Sandra L. (Coon) Shumaker

sandra schumaker-obitSandra L. (Coon) Shumaker, 68, of New Bethlehem, died Wednesday afternoon, December 3, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born October 31, 1946 in Indiana, Pa., she was the daughter of June (Swab) and Raymond Coon, former residents of Punxsutawney.

She married Larry E. Shumaker on November 30, 1963 and he survives. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 30, 2013.

Mrs. Shumaker graduated from Punxsutawney High School. She worked as a secretary for 16 years at the Kittanning Dialysis Unit.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Bethlehem. She enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing.

In addition to her mother of Greensburg and husband Larry, survivors include four children; Gregory Shumaker and his wife Tawna of Hawthorn; Bryan Shumaker and his wife Joan of Distant; Corey Shumaker and his wife Rona of New Bethlehem; and Heidi Clinger and her husband Todd of New Bethlehem.

She has 8 grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Kaitlin Shaffer and husband Craig, Brady Shumaker and wife Corri, Cami Shumaker and fiance’ Shane Bowser, Austin Shumaker, Devin Shumaker, Taylor Shumaker, Ali Shumaker and Mackenzie Thiel, three step grandchildren: Jocelyn, Ashley, and Cortney Clinger, three great grandchildren: Emma, Blake and Ansley Shaffer. Also surviving are two brothers; Charles Coon and wife Peggy of Sunset, LA. And Keith Coon of Greensburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 6, 2014 from 1 – 4 and 6 – 8 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church in New Bethlehem with Pastor Jodie Smith officiating. At Sandy’s request, her body will be cremated after the Saturday visitation.

Interment will be in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Smicksburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church at 234 Penn St. New Bethlehem, Pa. 16242.
