Sarah Mae (Strouse) Reed

Sarah Mae (Strouse) Reed, 85, of Henderson Township, PA passed away quietly at the DuBois Nursing Home, DuBois, Pa on Saturday, July 10, 2021.

Sarah was born on February 12, 1936, in Clover, Pa (Cambria County) to the late Amos Charles and Dorothy Leona (Frantz) Strouse.

She married Norman Eugene Reed on April 12, 1958. Her beloved husband of over 63 years survives and lives at their home in Henderson Township.

Sarah possessed a deep conviction to the Lord, Jesus Christ, and both her and her husband Norman were long-time faithful members of the Paradise United Christian Church where they attended regularly and volunteered countless hours in the service to God.

Sarah was a home maker who spent most of her time helping on the family farm.

She also worked at Rockwell International for a short time, but realized that her calling was to support her family and the family farm.

Sarah was also a long-standing member of the Jefferson County Fair Board and Farm Bureau where she and her family proudly showed cattle for many years.

Sarah loved to cook and bake and was especially known for her homemade buns garnering the title as the “Bun Lady”.

Only second to her love for God was her love and devotion to her family. Sarah deeply loved and cherished her family raising four children whom blessed her and Norman with eight grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.

When not devoting her time to the church and her family, Sarah enjoyed knitting and reading; both of which, brought her countless hours of relaxation and quiet joy.

Sarah was not just a mother and a grandmother. She was the matriarch of her family whose many sacrifices and quiet ambience nestled in love cohered her family in God and love.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, Norman, Sarah is survived by her four children, Fred Eugene Reed and his wife Renee of Reynoldsville; Gary Reed and his wife Sherry of Reynoldsville; Melanie Ann Shepler and her husband Kevin of Troutville, and Mary Ann Hollopeter and her husband Brett of Rockton. She is also survived by her eight beautiful grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
