Say What?!: Couple fined $157 for Leaving Bad Review of Hotel

BLACKPOOL, England – A British couple less than impressed with a hotel were fined $157 for leaving a bad review online months after a U.S. hotel was criticized for a similar policy.

Tony and Jan Jenkinson said they posted a review on the website TripAdvisor calling the hotel a “rotten stinking hovel” after spending an unsatisfactory night at the Broadway Hotel in Blackpool, England, and they were shocked when the hotel then charged their credit card for $157.

The hotel’s policy, which Tony Jenkinson said his wife signed without reading because she wasn’t wearing her glasses, states: “Despite the fact that repeat customers and couples love our hotel, your friends and family may not. For every bad review left on any website, the group organizer will be charged a maximum £100 ($157) per review.”
