BIRD ISLAND, Hawaii – A researcher looking for monk seals on a remote Hawaiian island recently recovered a message in a bottle dated from 1998.
Paige Mino, a seasonal research assistant for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, discovered the bottle, which was from a Washington state kindergarten class and had been dropped in the ocean 21 years prior.
