LEVENS, France (EYT) – Runners looking to get dirty during a French mud run event got a bit more than they bargained for when more than 1,000 became sick to their stomach afterward, possibly due to ingesting fecal matter along the course.
Officials are saying the runners had symptoms of acute gastroenterits due to a norovirus typically transferred through food or water or by touching a contaminated surface.
Yet many of the runners say they didn’t eat anything at the race, leading to speculation it they may have ingested it during the event.
