Say What?!: Giant Drill Bit Grazes Train in New York Subway

NEW YORK, New York – New York transit officials said an occupied subway train was grazed by a massive drill bit that bored down into the tunnel.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said about 800 people were aboard the F-line train about 11:45 a.m. Thursday in Queens when the drill bit penetrated the tunnel and grazed the top and side of the train.

MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said the contractor, Griffin Dewatering New England Inc., was using the drill to expand a well.

Ortiz told the New York Daily News contractors were “off the mark.”

“Obviously this is under investigation, and we’ll take it from there,” he said.
