School Bus Crashes into Car in Rose Township

ROSE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, this morning around 7:58 a.m. a school bus crashed into a car on State Route 36, at its intersection with Roller Coaster Road, in Rose Township, Jefferson County.

Police say this collision occurred as 79-year-old Geraldine Shields, of Summerville, operating a 2011 Bluebird School Bus, attempted to pull out from Roller Coaster Road (State Route 3022) onto northbound SR 36.

According to police, Shields failed to see a 2007 Ford F150 pickup, driven by 47-year-old Mitchell L. Smith, of Yatesboro, Pa., traveling north on SR 36.

The school bus struck the driver’s side rear of the pickup as it passed by, police say.

There was minor damage to both vehicles, and no injuries were reported by either operator or the students in the school bus.

Both operators were using seat belts.

– a 10-year-old boy, of Summerville, Pa.

– an 11-year-old girl, of Summerville, Pa.
– a 12-year-old girl, of Summerville, Pa.
– an 8-year-old girl, of Summerville, Pa.
– a 10-year-old boy, of Summerville, Pa.
– an 11-year-old boy, of Summerville, Pa.
