Senators Outvote Curve, 3-2

CURVE, Pa. – The Altoona Curve erased an early two-run deficit but fell to the Harrisburg Senators, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Harrisburg scored the game-winning run on a Brandon Waddell (Loss, 6-5) wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning, as Andrew Stevenson came into score and give the Senators a 3-2 lead.

Altoona (52-41) has dropped three games in a row for the first time since losing July 4-6 at Akron, while Harrisburg (49-43) has won three consecutive games for the first time since winning four straight from June 10-14 against the RubberDucks.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Kevin Newman led the frame off with a double into left field and scored on a Harold Ramirez RBI single, bringing Altoona within 2-1.

Ramirez came around to score, tying the game at 2-2 on an Elias Diaz RBI single, logging Diaz’s first RBI while with the Curve on his Major League rehab assignment.

Harrisburg reliever Derek Self (Win, 3-2) held the Curve scoreless in three innings of emergency relief, and Nick Lee (Save, 1) earned his first save of the season, holding Altoona scoreless in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Senators scratched across two runs in the top of the first inning against Curve starter Waddell on a two-run single by Drew Ward, giving Harrisburg an early 2-0 lead. After the first ended, Waddell retired the next 12 batters he faced before allowing a leadoff double to Stevenson to open the sixth.

Barrett Barnes and Ramirez both extended their hitting streaks to ten games, and Eric Wood extended his on-base streak to 15 games.

The Curve will have an off day Monday before a three-game series with the Hartford Yard Goats at PNG Field. The Curve will be the designated road team with a single game at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. Entrance to the games will be free for the public.
