Shirley A. Pennington

Shirley A. Pennington, 78, went to be with her lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

She was born January 23, 1943, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Myrtie (Williams) and Clarence Ellenburg.

On January 23, 1960, she married the love of her life, Johnny L. Pennington, who survives. They shared a wonderful sixty-one years together.

As a pastor’s wife, Shirley attended the Churches of God throughout the Allegheny General Conference.

She was a graduate of Pine Bluff High School in Arkansas.

After high school, she began working in Pine Bluff as a caregiver in a nursing home and worked in the maternity ward at the hospital.

After relocating to Pennsylvania, she continued her work as a caregiver at Jefferson Manor and then became a phlebotomist, working at local hospitals.

Shirley devoted her life to her family and the Lord.

She enjoyed crafting, painting, decorating, reading, flower gardening, pottery, meeting and socializing with new people and decorating cakes.

In addition to her husband Johnny, she is survived by four children, son Johnny L. Pennington, Jr. and wife Sandy of Hopewood, PA; daughter Ronda R. Reed and husband Dennis of Punxsutawney; son Jeffrey E. Pennington and fiancé Dana Mosier of Punxsutawney; and Christie I. Brown and husband Rich of Punxsutawney; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Holly, John III, Haley, Brandon, Derek, Richie, Randon and Reese; fourteen great grandchildren, Ace, Trip, Cannon, Brianna, Kobi, Kollin, Keaden, Alex, John, Aiden, Kaylnn, Ella Grace, Anson and Hudson; a brother Bill and Doris Ellenburg of Dallas, TX; and her precious dog Lily Lou.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Gregory Pennington; brother Clyde Ellenburg; and sisters Laverne Hill and Dorothy Dobson.

Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the funeral home with Lay Ministers from the Congress Hill Church of God in Franklin, Carol Shoup, Sonny Davis and John O-polka officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Mrs. Pennington, to the Burkett Hollow Church, 669 Burkett Hollow Road, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
