Shirley J. Anderson

Anderson ShirleyShirley J. Anderson, age 83, a long time Maple Street Brockway, PA resident (currently she had been making her home with her daughter Cheryl for the past 5 years) died on September 17, 2015 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born on December 25, 1931 in Brockway she was the daughter of the late John and Maxine Brownley Henry.

On October 18, 1952 she was married to Vernon L. Anderson and he preceded her in death on August 21, 2007.

She was a graduate of the Brockway/Snyder High School class of 1949. Retired, Shirley had served as the librarian at the Mengle Memorial Library in Brockway for 15 years. She was a member at the Moorhead United Methodist Church where she served on many committees over the years. Shirley also was a member of the United Methodist Women, and was a member of the Brockway Historical Society. She also served on Brockway’s Man/Woman of the year committee.

Shirley enjoyed “life” with her many friends and family, going for rides, reading and getting ice cream. She was never one to miss out on a good time!

She is survived by 4 daughters: Cheryl (Vic) DeSantis of Brockway; Melanie (Butch) Martell of LeContes Mills, PA; Lisa (Reggie) Hoover of Falls Creek, PA; Linda (Don) Straub of Hollidaysburg, PA; 1 son: Jason Gluckman of Brockway; 7 grandchildren: Krista Sparacino, J.C. DeSantis, Sarah Ball, Caleb Ball, Nicole Young, Dan Hoover, David Hoover; 7 great grandchildren: Hali Ball, Jordan Ball, Jesica Ball, Olivia Sparacino, Julian Sparacino, Avery Young and Annabella Young.

In addition to her parents and her husband she is also preceded in death by a brother Gary Gluckman. Friends will be received on Monday, September 21 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Moorhead United Methodist Church in Brockway.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bob Trask officiating. Burial will follow in the Wildwood Cemetery. Immediately following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held in the church’s social hall and everyone is welcome to attend. Memorial donations may be made to the Moorhead U.M. Church 335 Main Street Brockway, Pa. 15824.
