Social Media Threat Puts Clarion Bars on High Alert, Sparks Investigation

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Clarion Borough Police are investigating an alleged threat that resulted in area bars and restaurants being on high alert on Saturday night.

According to one area bar manager, the incident began after a known man sent a threatening message to a woman via Facebook messenger.

The issue escalated after various social media posts circulated warning locals: “Someone is planning on shooting up a Clarion bar (on March 3).”

“I think one thing led to another, and things may have got a little misconstrued,” the manager said. “But, we put our bouncers outside just in case. Nothing happened, and it was business as usual. But, you just can’t take those kinds of things for granted these days.”

Another area bar/restaurant owner said authorities came in on Saturday evening with flyers identifying the man by name, including his photo and birth date.

“We were aware, but nothing happened, and it was just another normal night,” the owner said.

Police say the case remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed against the man as of Monday evening.

EDITOR’S NOTE: There is no current or active threat at any establishment in Clarion.
