Smith Announces Upcoming Illegible License Plate Replacement Events in Brookville, Punxsutawney and Rayne Township

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Rep. Brian Smith (R-Jefferson/Indiana) is teaming up with local law enforcement to help constituents with free replacement of license plates that have become difficult to read.

“Local motorists can get pulled over if their license plate is crumbling or deteriorated, so we are hosting several events throughout the 66th Legislative District to help make the license plate replacement process as quick and convenient as possible,” said Smith. “I strongly encourage residents to bring in their vehicles and begin the FREE illegible license plate replacement process.”

Smith’s Illegible License Plate Replacement Events are scheduled to take place as follows:

– Monday, Aug 8, 4-6 p.m., Brookville Borough Complex, 18 Western Ave., Brookville, PA 15825
– Monday, Aug. 15, 4-6 p.m., Punxsutawney Borough Complex, 301 E. Mahoning St., Punxsutawney PA, 15767.
– Monday, Aug. 22, 4-6 p.m., Rayne Township Municipal Building, 140 Tanoma Road, Home, PA 15747.

A registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity.

At each event, a member of local law enforcement will inspect plates and determine the need for replacement. If deemed eligible for replacement, Smith’s district office team will be on hand to assist local residents with filling out the appropriate paperwork.

Drivers must bring along their unexpired Pennsylvania driver’s license and current vehicle registration card. Specialty plates such as those for veterans, PA zoos, college alumni, etc. cannot be processed at these events.

Once submitted to PennDOT, the new replacement plates should arrive in approximately two weeks. There is no fee for the plate replacement or this service.

Residents who are unable to make these events can always reach out to Smith’s Brookville and Punxsutawney district offices for assistance. More information about illegible plates is available by visiting www.DMV.pa.gov or by contacting Smith’s Punxsutawney district office at 814-938-4225.
