Smith Confirms Over $50K in Food Service Equipment Grants Awarded to Brockway, Brookville School Districts

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. – Rep. Brian Smith (R-Jefferson/Indiana) announced on Friday that approximately $50,359 in food service equipment grants have been awarded to three schools located in the 66th Legislative District.

“Most of us take for granted that we can expect three square meals on our tables each day, but it is not that easy for everyone,” Smith said. “Installing this state-of-the-art cafeteria equipment will further ensure that our children have access to the quality, nutritious food they need to learn, grow and excel.”

Smith confirmed that both Brockway Area Junior Senior High School and Brockway Elementary School will each receive a $5,790 grant for the purchase and installation of a blast chiller freezer.

Approximately $38,779 was awarded to the Brookville Area Junior Senior High School for the purchase and installation of a combination oven.

Funding for grants is made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service and is distributed through the state Department of Education using a competitive selection process. Schools can use the grants to purchase or upgrade equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves and dishwashers.

The 66th Legislative District includes all of Jefferson County and the Indiana County communities of Banks, Canoe, East Mahoning, Grant, Green, Montgomery, North Mahoning, Rayne, South Mahoning and West Mahoning townships and Cherry Tree, Ernest, Glen Campbell, Marion Center, Plumville and Smicksburg boroughs.
