William, a Brookville native, enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly after his 17th birthday. It was in his senior year that he withdrew from high school and enlisted with his father Paul to answer their country’s call to service during World War II.

After basic training, he went to the University of Wisconsin Naval Radio and Communications School. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the USS Otus as a radioman and was deployed for the duration of the war in the South Pacific.

He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, having earned the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class.

He returned to Pennsylvania and attended Williamsport Technical College earning a degree in drafting and design. Dick worked in the drafting and construction design field his whole career with the last 38 years as Highway designer for the PA Department of Transportation.

He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Brookville, Pa.; Life member of St. Marys Elks lodge #437; St. Marys Legion Post 103; and the PennDOT 35-year Club.
