St. Marys Wins 2019 Girls’ Class 3A District 9 Track & Field Title


BROOKVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) – In one of the closer District 9 Class 3A girls’ meets in recent history, St. Marys edged out two-time defending champion Bradford and Punxsutawney to claim the 2019 title Friday at Brookville High School.

The Lady Dutch scored 76 points, Bradford had 73 and Punxsutawney 70.5.

The meet came down to the final track event of the day, the 4×400-meter relay.

St. Marys’ team of Vivianne Catalone, Tesa Grotzinger, Samantha Hayes and Megan Quesenberry edged the Bradford team of Erica Marshall, Mackenzie Lucas, Mikah Watkins and Emily Bosworth 4:07.06 to 4:09.55. If the result had been reversed, Bradford would have taken home the team title.

Bradford did have the girls’ Class 3A James Manners Award Winner as the meet’s MVP in Regan Johnson.

Johnson won the 100-meter dash in a meet record time of 12.45 besting the previous meet record of 12.52 set by St. Marys’ Arianna Kleppinger in 2017.

She talked about her 100-meter title.

Johnson also took home the 200-meter title in a time of 26.50 and the long jump championship with a leap of 16-feet, 9-inches and anchored the 4×100-meter relay team that also consisted of Alexis Huber, Mackenzie Lucas and Erica Marshall that took first in a time of 51.33.

St. Marys had two individual champions.

Quesenberry won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:00.77 and Kyla Johnson took home gold in the 3,200-meter run (11:54.82)

The Lady Dutch also won the 4×800-meter relay in a time of 9:41.65 with a team of Grotzinger, Hayes, Johnson and Quesenberry.

In addition to Johnson, Bradford had two other champions.

Bosworth won the 800-meter run (2:22.71) and Marshall won the 300-meter hurdles (47.78).

Punxsutawney had six champions.

Olivia Roberts won the 1,600-meter run (5:22.06), Makena Nesbitt won the 100-meter hurdles (16.25) and the pole vault (10-0), Maeve Hanley won the high jump (5-1), Taegan Ludwig won the shot put (35-0 ¾) and the javelin (108-9).

Nesbitt talked after taking home the 100 hurdles championship.

DuBois dominated in the triple jump with Jerica Fischer winning with a leap of 33-4 ½ and Morgan Allman coming in second with a leap of 32-11 ¼. Gabby Snyder-Petitti also won the discus (107-7) for the Lady Beavers.
