Stanley M. Hopkins

Stanley M. Hopkins, 76, of Rossiter passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 at Mulberry Square.

He was born April 13, 1946 to Clarence M. and Anna Mae (Ruth) Hopkins in Rossiter.

Stan was a member of the Steffy United Methodist Church since birth.

Stan was a 1968 graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School and immediately entered the United States Army following the draft for the Vietnam Conflict.

He proudly served his country, as his father before him, and continued serving others the remainder of his life.

After returning from the military, Stan worked for various coal companies as a heavy equipment operator, before spending 33 years driving a school bus in the Punxsutawney Area School District.

His lifelong goal was to brighten the moment for anyone he came in contact with; whether a smile, joke, greeting, or a funny face.

Stan was very active in the community serving on the board of directors and as caretaker of Devers Cemetery since he was a teenager, becoming one of the first members of Punxsutawney REACT and helping his wife Robin with the American Red Cross as a vital asset in its growth throughout Jefferson County.

He enjoyed the outdoors, watching NASCAR, model railroading, and serving as a Sky Warn Watcher and rain gauge reporter for the National Weather Service.

Stan was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, at any time or in any situation.

Most of all Stan loved his family and they were the most important part of his life.

Stan is survived by his wife of 36 years, Robin L. (Hoefer) Hopkins, Rossiter, three children: Melissa Jewell (Roger), Orange Park, FL; Scott Hopkins, Virginia Beach, VA; and Shelly Brannen, Orange Park, FL; along with 5 grandchildren; Kairstin Quigley (Brett), Quinton Jewell, Shelby Jewell, William Brannen III, and Christopher Hopkins.

Stan is also survived by 3 great grandchildren; Sailor, Kayla, and Kaycee Quigley, and his beloved companion (cat) Tutti.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Daniel Hopkins, son-in-law William Brannen II, and the mother of his children, Linda Reagle Hopkins Helsel.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 3:00 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.

Military Honors will be provided by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment will take place at Devers Cemetery.

On behalf of Stan, Robin and the children would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Big Run Firemen and Rescue Volunteers who handled many lift assists in the past year with such dignity and respect for Stan and sincere appreciation to the staff at Mulberry Square for handling his special needs and care so well.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Big Run Fire Dept., PO Box 315, Big Run, PA 15715, or Just for the Animals, 98 Morrison Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
