The grant agreement with the state is for fiscal year 2016 for $331,996 in Community Development Block Grant funds.
The money will go toward the following projects:
- Big Run Borough, $86,000, to complete the War Memorial building restroom improvement project.
- Gwin, Dobson & Foreman, Inc., $17,000, for engineering services for the War Memorial building restroom improvement project.
- Borough of Reynoldsville, $105,018, for the Jackson Street waterline replacement project.
- Gwin, Dobson & Foreman, Inc., $19,000, for engineering services for the Jackson Street waterline replacement project.
- Borough of Punxsutawney, $81,220, to carry out the Clark Terrace Street improvement project.
Work to Begin Next Week at Former Days Inn Site
Jefferson County Development Council Executive Director Brad Lashinsky reported that work is expected to begin next week at the former Days Inn site off Allegheny Boulevard in Brookville.
Legacy Trucking bought the site and announced plans to build a 35,000-square foot facility that will start off with about 20 to 25 employees and anticipate growing to around 35 to 40 in 12 to 18 months.
Other Items
- JCDC will be conducting income surveys in the Martha Street area of Big Run and the Roosevelt Street area of Sykesville to determine if they are eligible to receive CDBG grant money.
- County treasurer James “Moon” VanSteenburg reported that there are no more doe licenses available. State Wildlife Management Unit 2D sold out early Wednesday. VanSteenburg reported that the county issued a little more than 11,000 licenses.
The next county commissioner’s meeting will be at 10:30 a.m., August 22. The jail board meeting will follow at 11 a.m.
