State Police Calls: Troopers Investigating Unemployment Scam

JEFFERSON/CLEARFIELD CO., Pa. (EYT) – Area state police responded to the following incidents: 

DUI in Young Township

PSP Punxsutawney conducted a traffic stop on a 2001 Dodge Dakota at 7:33 p.m. on Friday, January 27, on Altman Avenue Extension and Benson Road, in Young Township, Jefferson County.

Police say further investigation revealed the operator was suspected of driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

The operator—a 36-year-old Punxsutawney man—had an active warrant out of Jefferson County and an active arrest warrant for a parole violation.

The operator was transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

Additional charges are pending.

Troopers Investigating Unemployment Scam

PSP Clearfield received a report of theft by deception at 9:43 a.m. on Monday, January 30, near Blackburn Road in Bigler Township, Clearfield County.

Police say a known victim had a fraudulent unemployment scam filed in his name between November 2021 and June 2022.

The victim is a 37-year-old Madera man.
