State Police Continue to Follow Leads in Manhunt for Accused Cop Killer

eric-freinCANADENSIS, Pa. (EYT) – On Friday night, September 19, police surrounded a home near Canadensis where officials believe the accused cop killer is hiding.

Officials believe the suspect, 31-year-old Eric Matthew Frein, of Monroe County, is hiding out in a home in the Poconos Mountains – near his home in Canadensis. Frein has been identified in the September 12 ambush of two Pennsylvania State Police Officers at Blooming Grove police barracks, leaving one trooper dead, another critically wounded.

According to officials, there was gunfire last night between police and the individual who they believe is Frein.

State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan said investigators know Frein “has made statements about wanting to kill law enforcement officers and also to commit mass acts of murder.”

“He has very strong feelings about law enforcement and seems to be very angry with a lot of things that go on in our society.”

Frein has been placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list.

Frein, an anti-cop “survivalist, cut his hair into a “mohawk-style” before the attack on the two police officers, sources say.

His FBI most-wanted poster describes him as a “heavy smoker, a weapons enthusiast, and a survivalist. He claims to have fought with Serbians in Africa, and he has studied Russian and Serbian languages.”

There is a $100,000.00 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Blooming Grove-based State Police Cpl. Bryon Dickson, 38, of Dunmore, died at the scene from the ambush last Friday night. He is survived by his wife, Tiffany, and two young boys.

He was a seven-year veteran. He is the 95th state trooper to be killed in the line of duty since the Pennsylvania State Police was founded in 1905.

Sources say the surviving trooper, Alex T. Douglass, 31, of Olyphant, underwent surgery and is in critical but stable condition at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
