State Police Remind Area Motorists ‘Do Not Drink and Drive’

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police are reminding drivers to use good common sense and avoid drinking and driving during the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The combination of family gatherings, Christmas shopping trips, and the opening of the deer hunting season make the Thanksgiving holiday period one of the heaviest traveled weekends of the year.

Police urge drivers to be patient and courteous to other motorists to avoid being part of vehicle crashes.

This travel period also typically has the most alcohol-related crashes and deaths of all holidays.

Police ask drivers to remember that weather can be unpredictable, so it is good to be prepared for less-than-normal driving conditions and making sure your vehicle is properly winterized.

Police also remind drivers to use their seat belts and make sure child safety seats are properly installed and used.
