Street Racing Ends with Car Slamming into Wall in Punxsy

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Police say street racing is to blame for a crash that occurred Thursday in the borough.

Punxsutawney Police say Sierra Paige Shenk, of DuBois, was traveling north on Hampton Avenue near Sheetz when her Chevrolet Cobalt crossed over the railroad tracks onto Ridge Avenue.

Shenk began to lose control of her vehicle due to the icy road conditions, causing her vehicle to fish tail and travel into the left travel lane.

Police say Shenk’s vehicle then traveled over a sidewalk and slammed into a wall before rolling onto its passenger side.

Shenk and three passengers were transported to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

“Shenk was racing against a known individual who was trailing behind her,” said Patrolman Robert Marshall in a release issued Friday.

Citations are pending at District Magistrate Douglas Chambers’ office.

Central, Elk Run and Lindsey fire departments assisted at the scene. Rebucks Southside Towing removed the vehicle.
