Summerville Teen Accused of Selling Marijuana in Brookville

Hemp (cannabis)BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – A Summerville teen is facing charges after he allegedly sold marijuana in Brookville.

According to a criminal complaint, a confidential informant (CI) met with police around 12:00 p.m. July 29, informing police they had made previous arrangements to purchase a quarter ounce of marijuana from Sven Ian Barnes, 19, of Summerville, in exchange for $110.00.

The CI contacted Barnes via cellular telephone to arrange a meeting location and time, the complaint states.

At approximately 12:21 p.m., Barnes arrived at the location arranged and around 12:23 p.m. police provided Barnes with $110.00 and Barnes handed police what he claimed to be a quarter ounce of marijuana, then departed on foot, the complaint indicates.

A police NIK test on the material allegedly showed it was positive for marijuana, the complaint continues.

According to online court documents, Barnes faces the following charges:

  • Manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver – Felony
  • Criminal use of a communication facility – Felony 3
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalia – Misdemeanor

Barnes Charged in Another Drug-Related Incident

According to a criminal complaint, around 6:45 p.m. on July 24, police met a CI who allegedly indicated that he/she made previous arrangements to purchase a quarter ounce of Marijuana from Barnes for $100.00. The CI then allegedly contacted Barnes via cellular telephone and arranged the meeting location and time.

Around 6:54 p.m., Barnes allegedly arrived at the predetermined location. At approximately 6:54, police allegedly handed Barnes $100.00, and Barnes stated that it was $120.00 for a quarter ounce, the complaint states.

Police allegedly handed Barnes another $20.00, and Barnes handed police what he claimed to be a quarter ounce of Marijuana. Barnes departed the location on foot, the complaint indicates.

NIK test indicated positive for Marijuana, according to the complaint.

Based on the information detailed above, Officer Murray, of Brockway Police Department, believes that probable cause exists, and an arrest warrant was issued for Barnes.

He was arraigned at 8:00 p.m. on September 15, in front of District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak.

He was charged with the following offenses for the July 24 incident:

  • Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to
    Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
  • Criminal Use Of Communication Facility, Felony 3
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

Barnes Arrested, Jailed, Awaits Preliminary Hearing

Unable to post $25,000.00 monetary bail set for each incident, Barnes was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing for both offenses is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on November 19 in front of Judge Bazylak.
