Sykesville Man Jailed in Winslow Township Burglary


WINSLOW TWP. (EYT) — A Sykesville man has been charged with burglary after a police say he stole items from a storage unit.

James Edward Michaud, 28, was arraigned Wednesday morning in District Judge David Inzana’s office on the following charges:

– Burglary – Not Adapted for Overnight Accommodation, No Person Present, Felony 2
– Criminal Trespass-Break Into Structure, Felony 2
– Theft by Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Theft by Unlawful Taking-Immovable Property, Misdemeanor 2
– Criminal Mischief-Damage Property, Summary

On June 13 around 3 p.m., DuBois-based State Police were called to Wayne Road Storage in Winslow Township for a burglary in progress.

It was reported by the victim – a known Reynoldsville man – that a white male in his 20s was in his storage unit. The victim said his lock had been cut off and another lock put on the unit.

Police said that Michaud removed items from the victim’s unit, No. 10, and placed them in unit No. 9, one rented by Michaud’s family.

Several items, including a receipt with the victim’s name on it, were recovered from unit No. 9.

Tuesday, June 20, an arrest warrant was issued for Michaud, and he was taken into custody later that day.

Michaud remains in the Jefferson County Jail after failing to post $50,000 cash bail.

Michaud’s preliminary hearing is set for June 30.
