ROSE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say on October 8 around 7:39 p.m., a two-vehicle accident occurred on Route 36, approximately 1/2 mile north of Brookville, in Rose Township, Jefferson County.
According to police, Donald E. Hoffman, 75 of Hiram, Ohio, was traveling south on SR 36 in a 2011 Ford Ranger when he attempted to make a right turn into a gravel lot.
Police say Gerald B. Nichols, 61, of Brookville, Pa., was following too closely and failed to recognize that the Hoffman vehicle had slowed to make the turn and was unable to stop his 2000 Dodge Stratus before impacting the rear of Hoffman’s vehicle.
After impact, Nichols’ vehicle came to rest on the southbound berm while Hoffman’s Ford Ranger was brought to a controlled stop in the gravel lot.
Both Hoffman and Nichols were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Both front airbags in Nichols’ vehicle deployed.
Both operator indicated that they were not injured.
Pine Creek Fire Dept., Jefferson Co_ EMS and McPherson’s Towing assisted at the scene.
Nichols was charged with a traffic violation.
