Teen Waives Hearing on Felony Charges for Possession of Stolen Pistol

BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A teen waived his hearing in court on Tuesday on felony charges after being caught in possession of a stolen pistol following a crash in Brookville Borough.

Court documents indicate the following charges against 19-year-old Tyler Christopher Wise, of Sabula, Clearfield County, were waived for court on Tuesday, March 10:

– Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 2
– Firearms Not To Be Carried Without License, Felony 3
– Carrying Firearm During Emergency

The charges have been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

Wise remains lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on $30,000.00 monetary bail.

The charges stem from an investigation into a crash that occurred on Tuesday morning in Brookville.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:19 a.m. on February 4, Officer Stormer, of the Brookville Borough Police Department, was dispatched to the intersection of West Main Street and Allegheny Boulevard in Brookville Borough for a report of a three-vehicle crash.

At the scene, Officer Stormer was met by members of the Brookville Fire Company and several bystanders and began to provide aid and investigated the incident. He then received information from Chief Vince Markle that one occupant involved in the crash was seen walking away from the scene. Chief Markle relayed that a known witness had reported seeing a black male walk away from the scene of the crash toward storage sheds at a nearby business and then walk back to the scene.

Chief Markle then spoke to the only black male at the scene, identified as Tyler C. Wise.

According to the complaint, when asked what he was doing down by the sheds, Wise said “nothing,” but when asked to walk to that location, Wise lead Chief Markle to a red shed, pointed, and said, “it’s in there.” Chief Markle then looked behind some discarded garage door panels and discovered a black and silver handgun, later identified as a Kimber brand .380 caliber pistol.

The complaint notes the pistol was loaded with a magazine that contained six live rounds. The firearm was then rendered safe, and its serial number was checked through Jefferson County control.

According to the complaint, an NCIC check of the firearm’s serial number found the firearm had been reported stolen by the Sandy Township Police Department in Clearfield County. Wise was then arrested for possession of the stolen property. He was handcuffed and placed in Officer Stormer’s patrol vehicle.

Wise, being 19 years old, is not able to legally possess a valid license to conceal a firearm.
The complaint also notes that Wise must have had the weapon concealed as none of the witnesses observed Wise with a firearm in open-carry position.

The charges were filed through Magisterial District Judge Gregory M Bazylak’s office on Wednesday, February 5.
