Teresa L. “Nonie” Murgash age 86, of Brockway passed away peacefully with her family on Friday May 29, 2015 at Highland View Health Center.
She was born in Brockway on November 2, 1928 a daughter of the late Anthony and Harriet Moyer Costne.
Teresa graduated from Brockway High School and was a lifelong member of St. Tobias Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Society.
She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Christ the King Manor Auxiliary and was part of the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shop.
After raising her children Teresa went back to work for the Brockway Glass Co. retiring in 1992 after 27 years of service.
She started as a packer and eventually became shop steward and ultimately President of Union Local 110, where she served for many years, traveling the world.
She enjoyed spending time at Fox’s and McDonald’s with her friends. Nonie was the matriarch of her family and was an integral part of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives.
She will always be remembered for her love, honesty, compassion and toughness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Murgash in 1975. Teresa was the last surviving member of her family’s generation and was predeceased by her siblings, Catherine in infancy, Katherine (Kate) Chatfield, and two brothers Victor and Nick Costne
She is survived by two daughters, Toni (Fran) Facchine and Jody (Steve) Landini; four grandchildren, Angela (Scott) Kelly, Becky (John) Emerick, Fran (Carrie) Facchine and Erin (Joe) Grogan and five great-grandchildren, Ethan Emerick, Gina and Anna Kelly and Andrew and Nicholas Grogan.
Friends may call at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. 1033 4th Avenue, Brockway, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, with a vigil service being held there at 8:45 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Tobias Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
