LEEPER, Pa. (EYT) – The Mountain Mercantile in Cook Forest provides a unique experience for anyone who wants a little extra while shopping.
Opened in 2010, The Mountain Mercantile has a little bit of everything with items ranging from furniture and glassware to Christmas decor and costume jewelry.
While owner Suzan Jones is able to rattle off some items that can be found regularly in her store, she is quick to point out that not even she knows what exactly is going to show up on her own shelves.
“We regularly make the rounds at estate sales, flea markets, and yard sales looking for unique and functional items that we believe our customers will be interested in purchasing.”
When asked what items she specifically looks for while out perusing for items, Jones points out that part of the job is pretty simple.
“I guess to put it simply, a good deal.”
The “good deal” is what allows Jones to then sell the item in her store for a profit. While conducting business like this may seem like too much of a risk or a headache for some, for Jones it is her favorite part of the job.
“The best part is the hunt. From years of experience, I have learned what sells and what does not and a lot of that is largely based on location. For example, since a lot of our customers are campers we are constantly picking up smaller items like glassware and other things since we know they do not have much room in their vehicles for larger items while on a camping trip.”
The Mountain Mercantile does offer layaway services, however, for anyone who may find that perfect piece of furniture for their home while visiting Cook Forest.
The Mountain Mercantile is located at 2768 Route 36 in Leeper and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Check their Facebook page with more information including the most up to date items for sale.
