Thomas Dean Swab

Thomas Dean Swab, 64, Brookville, died Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Born Oct. 10, 1950, in Brookville, he was a son of the late Richard and Clara Smith Swab.

Tom graduated Brookville Area High School and his career highlights include retiring at the age of 32 from PennDOT, 20 plus years as the preeminent tire repair product salesman in western Pennsylvania, Fourth of July celebration specialist, and many other ventures too numerous to list here.

Tom served for more than 20 years on the Brookville Area School Board and was a founding member of the Firemen’s Club.

His other interests included arguing with everyone on the school board, getting into laughing fits in and outside of school board meetings, working at his house, telling stories, bon fires in the back yard, beer, dogs, family and friends.

Contrary to what he may have told everyone he will not be propped up in a chair giving everyone the finger.

He is survived by two children, Christopher Swab and wife, Erin, of Pittsburgh; and Cybill Swab of DuBois; one granddaughter, Ella Swab; one brother, Richard “Dick” (Carla) Swab of Va; one sister, Karen (Charlie) Hetrick of Brookville.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Brookville. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church in Brookville, celebrated by the Rev. Fr. William Laska. His ashes will be interred at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tom Swab memorial scholarship fund, in care of Terry Rhodes, at S&T Bank, 256 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825.
