WASHINGTON, D.C. (EYT) – U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson was elected to his fifth two-year term representing the 5th Congressional District.
According to unofficial election results early Wednesday morning, 57-year-old Glenn Thompson, of Centre County, first elected in 2008, was headed to victory over Kerith Strano Taylor to secure his fifth two-year term representing the 5th Congressional District.
Thompson said he wasn’t too concerned about his opponent, 40-year-old Strano Taylor, a lawyer from Jefferson County, during his recent re-election campaign. In 2014, he soundly defeated his Democratic challenger.
The 5th District represents 16 of the state’s 67 counties.
“Tonight’s victory was possible because you have allowed me to take your homegrown solutions to Washington,” Thompson said Tuesday night before his supporters.
“Through listening and leading, we have been effective at moving significant policies and pieces of legislation. Whether in education, supporting the dignity of the disabled, or to ensure people can gain the skills needed to be competitive in the workforce, we have been making a difference.”
Thompson believes that high unemployment and jobs are the most critical issues in the district, and his focus will be on job training.
Currently, he is pushing legislation to increase support for technical and career education.
