Three Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash in Jefferson County

ELDRED TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police say a two-vehicle accident occurred Saturday morning on State Route 36, in Eldred Township, Jefferson County.

According to Marienville-based State Police, 20-year-old Keyah M. Anderson, of Warren, and 57-year-old Joseph I. Nagel, of Butler, were involved in the collision.

Police say around 11:39 a.m. on August 26, a 2008 Jeep Liberty, driven by Anderson, was traveling directly behind Nagel’s 2017 Hyundai Ioniq within a construction zone. Both vehicles were stationary as they awaited the flagger to allow them to proceed. The Jeep was a distance behind the Hyundai and continued to move forward in line towards the Hyundai.

Anderson observed the flagger turn the traffic control signal to “slow” and she released her brake pedal. She began to accelerate her Jeep and did not realize that Nagel had not begun to move his Hyundai at that time. The Jeep then struck the Hyundai in the rear causing damage to both vehicles.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Anderson was using a seat belt and was not injured.

Nagel and two passengers – Christine J. Nagel and a 12-year-old male – were transported to Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital for suspected minor injuries, according to police. All occupants were using seat belts.

Anderson was charged with a traffic violation.

Jefferson County EMS and Sigel Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
