Three-Vehicle Crash on I-80 in Washington Township

car-accident-graphic-5254_jpg_475x310_q85-300x225WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – According to DuBois-based State Police, a three-vehicle accident occurred around 2:50 p.m. on January 29, on Interstate 80 West, in Washington Township, Jefferson County.

Police say the crash occurred as 42-year-old John L. Griggs was stopped in his 2004 Kenworth T-800 tractor trailer for slowed traffic ahead due to a previous crash.

Leann E. Murphy, 39, of Forest Hill, MD, also driving a 2004 Kenworth T-800 tractor trailer, and Steven A. Smock, 60, of Edinboro, driving a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, were unable to come to a stop before striking Griggs’ tractor trailer, according to police.

All three drivers were wearing seat belts and escaped injury in the crash.

Murphy’s passenger 56-year-old Nichalos A. Homan, of State College, was also uninjured in the crash. He was not using a seat belt.

Murphy’s tractor trailer and Smock’s Silverado were both disabled due to the crash.

Griggs’ tractor trailer was driven from the scene.

Both Murphy and Smock were charged with traffic violations.

PSP DuBois were assisted at the scene by the Fall Creek Fire Department, Sandy Township Fire Department, PennDOT, Bricen Towing, and Zimmerman Towing.
