Tractor-Trailer Jackknifes on Snow-Covered Roadway on I-80, Union Township

UNION TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police say a one-vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Union Township, Clearfield County.

According to DuBois-based State Police, around 1:25 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, Kristopher W. Kindt, 41, of Hudson, FL, was operating a 2007 Volvo 670, traveling west in the right-hand lane of I-80 near mile marker 104.4 when he lost control of the vehicle while traveling too fast for conditions.

The vehicle crossed the left lane and exited the south side of the roadway; then it struck an embankment with its front end and subsequently jackknifed. The vehicle came to a final rest facing east on the south side of the roadway against its own trailer.

Kindt was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage to its front end and was towed from the scene by Bloom Towing.

The maximum speed limit of I-80 had been reduced to 45 mph at the time of crash due to weather conditions.

Kindt was issued a traffic violation.
